Learning Goal: Student will be able to build a sturdy robot.

You will work in a team of three. Each group chooses a foreman, a secretary, and a materials manager.

...............................EVERYONE SHARES DESIGNing, BUILDING AND PROGRAMMING

  • The foreman is the leader, keeping the group on task and focused.
  • The secretary makes sure that all the necessary documents are turned in.
  • The materials manager finds any extra bits and pieces necessary
to complete a build, and makes sure that all pieces are picked up and put away at the end of the period.

The Assignment:

Your robot is moving around in Mario Land.

mario mat

The robot must start in the 'Start' Box. The robot must have an attachment.

These are the tasks you can choose from:

Mario Tasks

wario

If Wario stays in base, he will steal all the coins you bring back. Move Wario to his castle. (This cannot be your only mission.)

peach

Save Princess Peach from Wario’s castle. Move her to her own castle.

goombas

Push the Goombas to the side of the board. (Put the Goombas into the dumpster = Wow! Points)

mario

Reunite Mario with Princess Peach at her castle.

mario box

Turn the question box over so the coins fall out.

star

Take the star back to base.

coin and flower

Each coin or fire flower returned to base gets you one game point

waluigi

Move Waluigi to Wario's castle.

    piranha plant

If the robot touches the piranha plant, you will lose 5 points. Wow! Points if the robot plays the Piranha Plant lullaby as it goes past.

You must do at least one mission. Each coin or fire flower returned to base gets you one game point/extra credit point. You must get two game points as well as a mission.

You only need to do ONE (1) of these tasks . You may do more for extra credit.

Once your team has decided on which task to do, go to your Google Drive, and drag the
Final Project Planning document from 'Shared with me' to your LEGO folder.

Your team will all be working on the SAME document.

You may not touch your robot tub or robot until you have completed the planning document.

This is what you need to have in the planning document:

  1. A paragraph describing the task you chose, giving reasons why you chose that task.
  2. Do some research about robot design for this project. Give the URL and bullet points of
important information from at least three sites. You can get some research from the
LEGO Building Help Page, as well as from the links on the worksheet.
  3. Explain what the robot has to do to complete the missions - do not just parrot the instructions,
  4. Describe or draw the robot design.
  5. Write an algorithm that you will use to develop your program. This is a set of step by step instructions like
  • robot moves forward 30 cm
  • robot turns 90 degrees to the left
  • arm goes up 120 degrees

While you are designing and building the robot, read the rubric (see below) over and over again to make
sure that you include all the requirements.

Your program must be turned in and annotated. Turn it in to
.........Shared - Student - Pereira - LEGO - Class Color- Final Project Program as programyournames.

Afterwards you will be asked to describe the problems you experienced and how you solved them
