Learning Goal: Student will be able to build a sturdy robot.

Go through the Robot Design powerpoint (it's not the one we did in class).

You will work in groups of three. Each group chooses a foreman, a secretary, and a materials manager.

  • The foreman is the leader, keeping the group on task and focused.
  • The secretary makes sure that all the necessary documents are turned in.
  • The materials manager finds any extra bits and pieces necessary
to complete a build, and makes sure that all pieces are picked up and
put away at the end of the period.
  • You may rotate these jobs at each lesson

RULE#1 - You may not use the Riley Rover design!! You must take your robot apart.

Your team should choose ONE (only ONE) of the Building challenges:

These are your Building Challenge Choices. Choose ONE to build:

linkage legs............cup stack......

A robot that walks ........... ......A robot that drops a Dixie
with linkage legs ........... ...... ..cup on a target.

.........

goal score..........choice

A robot that throws a ball...........A robot of your choice, but.
into the goal..............................the idea must be approved by me first

Click on the pictures for some useful ideas for each choice.

NOW: Read the Rubric!

.......................Rubric.

Next: Think about a robot design. Go to the link below to look at designs before you start your document.

design links

Here are some designs for robots and attachments - use these to help you plan what you want to do.

Now go to your Google Drive.

Find the Google Doc called 'Building Challenge' in 'Shared with me'.

Drag it into your Google Drive 'LEGO Robotics folder'.

Your whole team is writing on the same doc!

You must answer the questions on that document. You need to fill in:

1. Brainstorm your design - put down several ideas you thought of before you decide

2. The criteria and the constraints for this project.

3. A design for the robot (on paper, Google Draw, Paint,)  including an explanation of

  • how you will make the robot sturdy, so that it doesn’t break easily
  • the simple machines in your robot design.
  • if you do the design on paper, turn it in to the class folder and note this on your Google doc.
  • Try to show at least two elevations of your robot

You may not get the tub until this has been turned in.

You will work as a team and get team grades.
