distance learning

a) 6th and 7th grade (8th may do it if they want to).

Make props for tournament skits.Look at these links showing how to make things by sewing, using papier mache,
and papercrafting including pepakura. You must make a prop using any technique of your choice, only from items
currently in your home - do NOT ask your parents to go out and buy anything
, appropriate for last year’s, this
year’s or (our best guess at) next year’s theme. Here is the teaser for next year's theme. You will have an Engineering
Design Process form on Google Docs which you must fill in as you go through the various stages of creating,
and must add pictures of your work in stages of making it.

DO NOT START MAKING UNTIL YOU HAVE A PLAN AND A DESIGN. The plan and design are due Friday 3rd at 3 pm.

8TH GRADE STUDENTS WHO ARE NOT MAKING A PROP MUST CHOOSE BETWEEN LEARNING PYTHON OR JAVASCRIPT.

b) 8th grade students who want to learn JavaScript may use Trinket (from the Portal) to do the HTML and CSS lessons,
copying me the links from your assignments onto the Google Drive page for Assignment 3.

I can't use the book I had planned to use, so instead you can download Javascript for Kids, and work from that.
Type out and test the code examples throughout the book. If you don’t fully understand what’s going on, try making small changes to see what effect they have.
If the changes don’t have the effect you expected, see if you can find out why. Above all, work through the “Try It Out” and “Programming Challenges” sections.

Make sure you read the section called 'Writing some Javascript' on p 7. Your first part of this assignment is the 'Try it Out' on page 17. The second part is
the 'Try it Out' on page 22.

If you prefer, you may use one of these free courses: w3schools or javascript.info

8th grade students who want to learn Python may do the assignments on my web site,  copying your programs onto the
Google Drive page for Assignment 3.

I can't use the book I had planned to use, so instead you should download Python for Kids, and work from that.
Type out and test the code examples throughout the book. If you don’t fully understand what’s going on, try making small changes to see what effect they have.
If the changes don’t have the effect you expected, see if you can find out why. The first part of this assignment is to read the beginning of the book, and to turn
in a program using variables. Then turn in what you did on p 22.

If you prefer, you may use this free course. Or you could go to Amazon Future Engineer and get free access
to the 9th grade virtual robot Python course. For some reason I can't get into this course, but it should be good,

This is due on Friday 3rd by 3 pm.
